THE OLD FORGE GLAMPING

Located in the Wicklow Hills, The Old Forge Glamping is set on the grounds of a Georgian house and farm and overlooking Lugnaquilla and the surrounding rolling countryside. The brainchild of Belinda Bielenberg, granddaughter of bestselling authoress of “The Past is Myself” Christabel Bielenberg, the house and grounds are steeped in history of the couples times having moved to Ireland from Germany after the second world war after living through solitary confinement in Ravensbruck concentration camp in Germany. Christabel’s books indeed became a well know television series called “Christabel” and acted by Elizabeth Hurley.

Located near Shillelagh, County Wicklow and just off the Wicklow Way Walk, The Old Forge Glamping yurts and log cabin are set in an beautiful grove of specimen trees not far from the main house and overlooking spectacular views of Aghowle hill and Lugnaquilla Leinster’s largest mountain. In the centre of this grove you will find a secret outdoor bar area where lies the main campfire ring also.

Each tent has its own unique view, so that whether you are sitting at your private barbeque area barbequing your dinner or sitting around your own campfire toasting marshmallows or smores, you are taking the true beauty of the surrounding area and views. Your children can sleep peacefully right beside you in the yurt as you sit outside the yurt enjoying the peace and quiet of the campfire.

Each tent comes with full bedding, a heater and lantern candles. When the light of the evening fades and it’s bedtime you will experience the gorgeous flickering glow of candle light against the very unique wall and ceiling designs of your yurt. The cosiest feeling of all is when the rain is ‘pitter pattering’ against the soft canvas above your head.

In the morning you may like to take a shower in The Dairy House shower room, followed by breakfast in the Carriage kitchen or outside on the picnic tables where the sun streams in, in the mornings. The kitchen comes with a wood stove, tv, kettle, toaster, fridge-freezer, microwave, and all your crockery and cutlery needs.

Picture yourself and your family or friends setting up your very own campfire by the beautiful woods and looking out on spectacular Wicklow scenery. You will be surrounded by nature and may even come across the long eared barn owl, buzzards, deer, foxes, badgers, stoats, pheasants, duck, and many more interesting species native to this particular countryside!

As the evening draws in, light the campfire and toast marshmallows before getting into your warm and cosy tents. Do remember to wrap up warm because this is after all still camping.
